Creating quality content is tough. It’s even harder to do it on a consistent basis.
Sometimes it’s hard to come up with ideas that are going to resonate with your audience, I get that!
It’s why I put together this ultimate guide to help you create quality content that resonates with your audience. Keep reading to learn my top tips.
1. Create a Content Schedule
I like to use a google spreadsheet that has a yearly calendar, as well as a separate sheet for just blog posts. This lets me come up with content ideas and see them all at glance. Then on the calendar portion, I schedule the days I want the posts to go live.
This works for blog posts, landing pages, social media posts, and any type of content you want to release. By putting them on a calendar you can see at a glance when you need the content done by.
2. Set a Time to Create Every Day
Having a consistent schedule to create content is crucial. It’s easy to let the day slip away, especially when you’re working on so many different parts of your business. That’s why you need to set aside some time to create content.
Set a reminder if you need to. You’ll notice that the more you do it, the easier it becomes so keep going!
For me, I set time aside at the end of each and every day to sit down and write or create something. I like to do it at the end of the day because it lets me get all of my work done and allows me to focus on what I’m doing.
However, I know a lot of people who like to create content first thing in the morning. You need to experiment and find what’s going to work best for you.
3. Have Something Unique to Say When You Create
When you create content you always need to have something to say. It’s okay to get ideas from other sources but anytime you create content you should be doing with the goal of teaching something new.
If you can’t look at the content you created and see what value you added to it take some extra time and include something else that’s going to make it yours. Even if you’re reposting a meme on Facebook, add a caption that makes it unique to you and your brand.
4. Create What You’d Like to See
It’s a lot easier to create content that you find interesting. If you’re a musician I’m not expecting you to write a blog post every week. However, I do expect you to create music every day.
And let me quickly explain the difference between creating and publishing.
Creating content is doing anything where you start from nothing and create something. This blog post was just an idea when I started it, and I created content by writing this. I create content every day, but I don’t publish content every day.
If you’re a musician you should be creating content every day, but you don’t have to publish every day. Especially when you’re just starting with a content plan, you need to create and keep a backlog of content, which brings us to our next point.
5. Create a Backlog of Quality Content to Publish
Now that you’ve been creating content, and have a plan it’s time to create and hold on to that content. I know, you just did all of this work and I’m telling you to not post it right away, but hear me out.
Having a backlog of content to post let’s you have flexibility in your schedule. Some days it’s going to be impossible to publish content, and that’s okay only as long as you have a backlog you can pull from.
I would recommend creating enough content to publish out for a few weeks. It’s also a good idea to create evergreen content that you can hold onto as long as you want, and push out when you need to.
6. Research, Research, Research!
Did I mention researching? Even if you consider yourself an expert in an area you still need to do research into what you’re saying. Check out other experts in your area and see what they’ve said about the topic. You may be surprised by what you learn!
7. Create a Mix of Quality Content
When you want to create quality content on a consistent basis, you need to offer a variety of content. This means you need videos, pictures, blog posts, social posts and so much more. Creating all types of content will help you reach your audience in the way they like to consume information.
Some people love reading blogs, others won’t look at you if you don’t have a video. It’s important to meet everyone where they are by creating content in all forms.
